| | Dj Sassmouth HomeAbout Sassmouth Sassmouth was inspired to DJ in Chicago, 2002. Her youth, filled with classical training on the viola and live performances as a member of string quartets and punk bands, prepared her musically for her current role as DJ. Sam's love for the more minimal side of techno influenced her decision to study in Santiago in 2004, where she further developed her melodic sound amongst the Chilean techno community. Sassmouth has been fueling parties with her mix of techno, house, and electro ever since, including countless Naughty Bad Fun Collective parties and the 2007 Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Samantha, a social being, performs regular DJ sets as half of the duo 'Punsiher vs. Sassmouth.' This year Sam caried her partnering tendencies from the turntables into the studio. 'Your Imagination' written by Jason Patrick and Sassmouth will be released on vinyl and in digital form in September '07 on Klectik 001. The two are currently working together on a follow up EP. Also; 'Wake Up!,' Kate Simko's and Sassmouth's monthly techno party, continues to go off at Sonotheque every third Thursday of each month. Take a disco nap, come early, and stay late. Information on Sassmouth: Sassmouth, a classically trained party girl, sought refuge through electronic dance music in an effort to escape the bullshit of capitalism. Always on the lookout for the next serious party, Sassmouth's training brought her to all corners of the globe including regular holidays in the world's techno capital, Detroit; annual pilgrimages to the Winter Music Conference, and regular visits to Ibiza's closing parties and the Mutek festival. After perfecting the art of dancing 'till sunset, Sassmouth was inspired to DJ in 2002. Her youth filled with classical training on the viola and live peformances as a member of string quartets and punk bands in her home region of the Eastern Washington wasteland, Spokane, prepared her musically for her new role as DJ. She began fueling bars, lounges, house parties, and morning gatherings in Chicago with her mix of techno, house and electro. Sam's love for the more minimal side of techno influenced her decision to study in Santiago, Chile in 2004, where she further developed her minimal melodic sound amongst the Chilean techno community. Sam eventually snagged a set at one of the top techno nights in the city at the infamous Dominica 54'-- once again rocking that friendly late morning crowd. Upon returning to Chicago in 2005, Sassmouth continued her late night hijinks behind the decks at Naughty Bad Fun Collective events such as those at the west-side underground spot Deadtech and along with her close friend Antiphase and others, began organizing a biweekly techno night. Etikett would run for 40 parties during 20 consecutive months at the same venue before Sassmouth turned her energy towards other projects. In late '05 under the direction of Chicago techno visionary; Frankie Vega's brainchild of 'Sassmouth Meets Punisher' was born at the special 'In Your System' anniversary party. Sam's collaborations with Detroit's Punisher, has brought an added depth to her sound. Their DJ act traverses the spectrum of techno and electro music, from glitchy minimal to a driving harder techno. The duo, 'Punisher vs Sassmouth' performed in many U.S. cities often with Vega throughout '06 including the 'Live Wrong' parties in Chicago, Miami, and Detroit, Venus Envy in Indianapolis, and at the now infamous 'Seismic Presents' parties where the shows' phenomanal sound systems truly emphasized Sassmouth's love of all wicked bass lines. Sassmouth's techno-lifelong dream was realized in '07 when she was asked to perform at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. On Saturday afternoon, May 26 with the help of a friendly dancefloor Sassmouth rocked DEMF's Beatport stage. The tent was filled with both old friends and those met more recently during her midwest tour in the winter of '07 to Minneapolis, Madison, Indianapolis, Cincinnati's Bang!, Akron, and Detroit. The successful collaboration betwen dancers and DJ on a DEMF stage and sound system made this the set of her life. Sam, a social being, carried her partnering tendencies from the turntables into the studio. 'Your Imagination' written by Jason Patrick and Sassmouth will be released on vinyl and in digital form in September '07 on Klectik 001. The two are currently working together on a follow up EP. Kate Simko and Sassmouth's party, 'Wake Up!' moved to Thursdays at Sonotheque in January '07 and continues to go off on the third Thursday of each month.
